You might have noticed that some articles on the internet don’t sound quite right.  There’s a word or a phrase that just doesn’t fit with the rest of the paragraph – it’s almost ok, but it’s just not quite right.  Chances are the person that wrote the article was trying to fit in a specific keyword, or keyword combination, to increase the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) results for the site you are reading.  This is an important technique to use when you are creating your next blog post, article submission, ebook, or press release.   If you have the right keywords in place, you can generally increase your inbound traffic.

So where do you find keywords?  Well lucky for you, Google has created a great tool to suggest appropriate keywords.  Enter your topic in the “Find Keyword” box, and then click “search” to get your results.  The keywords that you should include in your next article are the ones that have the highest global monthly searches, with the least amount of competition.

Now take these keywords and pop them into the Google Traffic Estimator.  Click on the “estimate” button, and then examine the estimated avg. CPC (Cost per Click).  If you have a high Local Monthly Search volume, with a low priced CPC, you can probably assume that there are not many people paying for those particular keywords.

For example:

Your next article is going to be about keywords.

In the “Find Keywords” box, you enter “keyword, SEO, keyword value” (all on different lines).

Google shows that there are over 800 keywords based on the 3 that have been entered.  You will see that many of the keywords are not relevant.  Just ignore these ones.  A few key words to grab are: SEO, with 7.48 million monthly searches, and keyword with 5 million, or adsense, with 1.8 million monthly search results.

When you put these keywords into the traffic estimator, we can see that in order to reach the top ad position in Google it will cost approximately $3.89 for SEO, $2.43 for keyword, and $10.07 for adsense.  If your article features these keywords in a natural way, it’s pretty likely that you will be able to attract some new visitors to your site.  Not everyone is going to click on the google ads that target these keywords.  Many people will skip the ads, and just click on the organic results.  Since you’ve already built these keywords into your post, you are organically increasing your SEO.

The better copywriters are able to add these words into the body of your message in a way that the reader doesn’t see the keywords as out of place.  It’s important to remember that too many keywords is just as bad as not enough.  The rule of thumb to follow is that the article should be interesting to read; not distracting.  Creating great content will get you more unique visits to your site – adding a few keywords will make it a bit easier.
